First snow

When I opened my eyes this morning, the first thing that popped in my head was "It's supposed to snow today."
I went to the bedroom window and pulled back the tapestry and at that moment I saw the flakes start to come down.

How different this winter has been compared to last! I named last year the Acorn year, because in all my years living here I have never seen or heard so many acorns in my life. They would crunch under my feet, or assault the side of the house or the car. This year...not one sole acorn ricochet, nor a random acorn bonk on my head. No acorn flour in the parking lot at school under the trees where the cars continuously rolled through, and I can honestly say I did not witness one fall.

It seems like the snow came before the rain this year. Everything dried up so early, and it seems all I can remember is the smoke from the summer fires. The oak trees look like they've been smokin' ciggies, and a few on our road have died. It's sad. At least the golden beauty of the Black Oak leaves have made up for it.

It took 32 degrees and some precipitation for it to finally feel like winter....it's about time.
